Los Angeles, or the City of Angels, is the largest city in California and the second-largest city in the United States. Five months before California achieved statehood in 1850, Los Angeles became a municipality. Los Angeles is surrounded by many communities that together form Greater Los Angeles. Hollywood became a part of greater Los Angeles in 1910. One year later, the first movie studio was established.
